Carroll Shelby's personal GT500KR to cross the block | Hemmings ...

Vicari?s Biloxi Auction will feature more than 400 classic and muscle cars up for sale, including a 2009 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR said to have been personally owned by Carroll Shelby.

According to Vicari?s description of the car, it was delivered new to the late Carroll Shelby for his personal use and includes a copy of the previous title in his name as well as certificates of authenticity, a bill of sale from Shelby to the current owner and Shelby?s signature on the dash. The car is CSM #445 of 712 produced in 2009 and has been driven less than 1,600 miles. It has a cool color combination too ? black with black stripes, one of just 236 with that paint scheme.

?The current owner bought this Shelby GT500KR as an investment piece, storing it in a garage and taking it out for the occasional car show,? said Pete Vicari, president of Vicari Auction. ?Both the consigner and the Vicari Auction team are eager for a new enthusiast to enjoy a vehicle that was previously owned by such a legendary name in the performance automotive industry.?

The 2008 and 2009 KRs started out as GT500s built by Ford in Flat Rock, Michigan, then went to Shelby American in Las Vegas for a variety of tweaks including: 3.73:1 gears, a short-throw shifter, unique wheels and interior treatment, a special composite hood, special badging and more. The supercharged 5.4-liter in the KR puts out 540hp and a Ford Racing handling package helps plant that power to the pavement.

With original Cobra prices steadily climbing toward the $1 million mark and early Shelby G.T 350 and 500 values out of reach of many, late-model Shelby GT500s and GT350s seem like a bargain ? maybe even an investment.

To win VIP tickets to the Biloxi auction, as well as VIP tickets to the 3rd annual New Orleans Classic Auto Festival, November 30 to December 1, Vicari has set up a Facebook promotion that runs until the end of this month. To participate, simply ?Like? Vicari on Facebook and include a post about your favorite car memory.

Vicari?s 16th annual Biloxi auction will take place October 12-13 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center. General admission to the auction is $12.50 per day. For more information, visit VicariAuction.com.
