Troy mayor faces recall vote

Troy voters will decide whether to ditch their controversial mayor on election day.

Recall organizers say Daniels says has drawn all the wrong kinds of attention to the city since she was elected just about a year ago.

Matt Binkowski is with the ?Recall Janice Daniels? campaign. He says Daniels has ?embarrassed? the city by using anti-gay rhetoric, and leading opposition to a federally funded transit center.

Binkowski says the recall effort really began after Daniels read a lengthy position paper about the transit center at a city meeting.

?During that 20 minutes, she attacked city staff, accused them of lying and cooking the books and so forth,? said Binkowski. ?And after all those things happened, we decided we really needed to mount this recall campaign.?

Binkowski said recall supporters are confident their effort will prevail. ??We had to collect over 9000 signatures just to get this on the ballot, and we had to do it in 90 days.?

But Daniels has her supporters, especially those aligned with the Tea Party movement. They insist the recall effort is little more than an unjustified ?power grab.?

But Daniels has attributed the effort to a ?small group? of ?political malcontents,? and says she?s confident she?ll keep her job.
