Google Glass arrives in Michiana

SOUTH BEND -- Marianne Kruppa has been getting a lot of interesting looks lately, on the sidewalk, at restaurants, and at her job as the manager of sights and sounds at the St. Joseph County Public Library.

?Most people just go, huh?? she said.

But don't be shy.

?If you see me come up and ask, I'll let you play with it,? she said.

She's eager to show off her Google Glass, a new device you wear like a pair of glasses.

?I can Google, take a picture,?record a video, get directions, do a video chat,? she said while showing off the gadget, Friday.

All of it hands-free.

?It's the equivalent of looking at a 28 inch TV 8 feet away,? said Kruppa, who is one of 2,000 people who are testing Google Glass before it hits store shelves.

It's been getting a lot of attention lately as people explore the possibilities, and at the same time worry about where technology is taking us. Google Glass can record videos and take pictures of whatever its user is looking at.

?Once people try it on and see how it works they're much more relaxed about it,? said Kruppa.

At least one other person in Michiana is testing Google Glass, which cost $1,500.
